Francesco Domenico, italienischer Schriftsteller und Politiker, * Livorno 12. 8. 1804, ✝ Cecina (Provinz Livorno) 23. 9. 1873; nahm leidenschaftlich Anteil an den Kämpfen des Risorgimento und wurde mehrfach verbannt und eingekerkert; 1848 Innenminister und 1849 diktatorischer Regierungschef der Republik Florenz; später Mitglied des italienischen Parlaments, Gegner C. Cavours. Vertreter der antiklerikalen, republikanischen toskanischen Romantik; schrieb historisch-romantische Romane (»La battaglia di Benevento«, 1827, deutsch »Die Schlacht von Benevent«; »L'assedio di Firenze«, 5 Bände, 1836, deutsch »Die Belagerung von Florenz«; »Beatrice Cenci«, 2 Bände, 1851, deutsch), Novellen, Pamphlete und Satiren (»L'asino«, 1857).
